Check link preview

My server fetches the page and its preview image – just like Facebook, LinkedIn, X & co. do when sharing.

Guide

How it works

  1. Enter an address

Enter the address of the page to be shared – for example a blog post or a product page.

  2. View the preview

Use the tabs to switch between Facebook, LinkedIn, X, WhatsApp and Slack. A large image only appears if it is at least 600 × 315 pixels – on X additionally only with twitter:card “summary_large_image”.

  3. Fix errors

The check lists missing required tags, images that are too small or wrong, relative addresses and differing canonicals. Under “Recommended tags” you find ready-made code with the existing values.

  4. Clear the cache

Facebook and LinkedIn cache previews. After a change, have them re-read the page with the Sharing Debugger or Post Inspector.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Open Graph?

A set of meta tags (og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url …) introduced by Facebook. Today almost all networks and messengers read it to build a preview with title, text and image from a link.

Which image size is right?

1200 × 630 pixels (aspect ratio 1.91 : 1) fits Facebook, LinkedIn and X. At least 200 × 200 pixels are required; below 600 × 315 the networks only show a small image. Use JPG, PNG or WebP – SVG is not displayed.

Do I also need Twitter tags?

Usually <meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image"> is enough. X takes title, description and image from the Open Graph tags. Separate twitter: tags are only worthwhile if X should show something different.

Why does Facebook still show the old image?

Facebook caches previews for up to 30 days. With the Sharing Debugger (“Scrape Again”), Facebook re-reads the page immediately. A new file name for the image also helps.

Why does the tool not find my tags?

The tags must be in the original HTML. If they are only inserted via JavaScript (as with some single-page apps), neither this tool nor the networks see them. Bot protection can also reject the request.

Are third-party images loaded in my browser?

No. My server loads the preview image and passes it along – your browser does not make any request to the server of the website being checked.
